appearance of a shaft leading to a chalk chamber. The collapse occurred in a .field close to
the railway station when the foundations of a house were being laid.
10 subsidence 1977 occurred in the rear garden. who found a
collapse in the rockery which led to a cavity in Thanet Sand. almost certain
that this was the collapsed shaft of a denehole

A certain Mr. Edward Venus. First
Officer in the Crays Fire Brigade, recalled the time when a bridle path crossed
the spot where the first St. Mary Cray Station was built. The path continued
through the north side of the churchyard and then via Star Lane to Swanley,
eventually joining the main Pilgrims Way at Otford.
