Darenth Hill
St. Margaret of Antioch. The 'little church on the hill', a place of worship since 940 AD and Britain's sixth oldest church. It site on the hillside lends it some dignity. There is some important archaeology here, Some Roman material in the quoins thought to be taken from the nearby villa site. Saxon origins and some early Norman work. Visually charmless. Norman doorway which has been disused and a later porch put in place. Chancel nave aisle, and tower, pyramidal shingled roof. Priests chamber between the vaulting and the roof. Early 12th groined vault over the sanctuary and 12th chapel which was later demolished, but its arcade remains. Blocked up lancet windows. Head corbels outside. Listed Grade I.
War memorial. Oak cross was a temporary grave marker on the Western Front.
