Thames Tributary River Stort - Pishiobury Park
Thames Tributary River Stort
The Stort flows west towards the River LeePost to the east Pishiobury
Harlow Road
This is the old A11 supplanted now by the M11 as the main road.
Ashplant Wood. Two urn burials found here.
Rowneybury Cottage. 16th house with a Timber frame, weatherboarding and some pargetting. This was originally a lodge to a drive to Pishiobury Hall which has now disappeared but went up through Union Wood.
Rowneybury. Otherwise known by the media as Beckingham Palace because owned by a footballer. It is said that it was built in the 1930s as a local authority children’s home – if this was really so was it a branch of the approved school in Pishiobury Park and owned by Middlesex County Council.
The Straw Hat. Single storey 17th house, Timber framed with pargetting and a thatched roof. Chinese restaurant
Pishiobury Drive
Old driveway to the big house, now lined with suburban housing.
Pishiobury Park – said to be landscaped by Brown. Trees, cattle, etc.
1 The Lodge. Red brick single storey mid 19th gate lodge to Pishiobury.
Union Wood. ‘Union’ often means it was owned by a Poor Law Union – does this mean that if Rowneybury really was a local authority home that it was part of the same complex. It seems to be far from clear who owned Pishiobury before it was bought by Middlesex County Council in the 1930s.
Oak Walk. Another entrance to Pishiobury Park.
