High Beech

High Beech

Popular picnicking spot 350 feet up in the forest. There are extensive views over the Lea Valley towards Waltham Cross. The name 'High Beach' may refer to the layer of pebbles and sand, which cap the hill, but some prefer the spelling 'Beech'.

Holy Innocents. The spire was intended as a landmark above the tall trees, but it is now hard to find among the beeches. The present church of the Holy Innocents was designed by Sir Arthur Blomfield to replace the old church of St. Paul in the 1880s.
